Terms of service
Last updated 25 September 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using this website, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.
2. Purpose of the website
The Adam Jones Development website showcases my software development portfolio, projects and services. Content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute professional advice. Section 4 sets out what you own, and what I will hand over, when I build a website or application for you.
3. Intellectual property
All content, code, images and branding on this website (adamjonesdevelopment.com) are the property of Adam Jones Development unless otherwise stated. You may not copy, reproduce or redistribute any materials without prior written consent.
4. Client projects: ownership and handover
This section applies when I build or look after a website or application for you. Your written proposal refers to these terms, and anything the proposal says specifically about your project takes priority over them.
What you own
Anything you give me for the project, such as your logo, photos and copy, stays yours throughout.
Once a project has been paid for in full, I assign to you the copyright in the work that is specific to your business: your site's design, the content I write for you, and code written only for your project. Until then, it stays with me.
Two things are not assigned:
- Third-party and open-source software, such as frameworks, libraries and fonts. These stay under their own licences, which allow you to keep using them as part of your site.
- My reusable code. This means my templates, starter codebases, components, design system, scripts and tooling: anything that isn't specific to your business and that I use, or could use, across projects for other clients. It stays mine whether it was written before, during or after your project, and that includes general improvements to it that I make while working on your project. You get a permanent, free licence to use, change and host it as part of your site, with me or anyone else. You can't sell it or license it to anyone else separately from your site.
Unless you ask me not to, I may show your finished project in my portfolio and mention that I built it.
Your domain
Wherever practical, your domain is registered in your name, in a registrar account you control, and I am given access to manage it. If I ever register or hold a domain for you, I hold it on your behalf, and it will be transferred to you whenever you ask, whatever else is going on between us, including if an invoice is unpaid.
Handing everything over
You can ask me to hand your project over at any time, whether you're moving to another developer, bringing it in-house or just want your own copies. Within 14 days of a written request, I will:
- Transfer your domain to you, or give you the code to transfer it yourself
- Transfer the source code repository to you, or give you a complete copy of it
- Transfer the hosting project to an account you own, or give you everything needed to deploy it elsewhere
- Give you every login and credential I hold for your site and its services, and hand over or remove my access as you prefer
- Give you a copy of your site's content and data, including the most recent backup
The handover itself is free. If you want help setting up with a new host or developer, that is charged at my published day rates, and any fees from the new provider are yours.
If a project invoice is unpaid, I will still transfer your domain and give you your content and data. Code and design for the unpaid work are handed over once the invoice is settled.
If I stop trading
If I ever have to stop working on your site, for example through illness or closing the business, I will give you as much notice as I can, and at least 30 days wherever possible, and hand everything over as described above.
Care plans
Ending a care plan does not affect anything in this section. You keep everything you already own, and the handover applies in the same way.
5. Use of the site
You agree not to:
- Use the site for unlawful purposes
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site or its servers
- Misuse contact forms or email addresses for spam or unsolicited marketing
6. External links
This website may contain links to external websites. I am not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
7. Limitation of liability
I take reasonable steps to keep the information on this website accurate and up to date, but make no guarantees. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this website or its content.
8. Changes to these terms
I may revise these Terms from time to time. Any updates will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of the website means you accept any changes.
